Fender bender? 5 things to keep in mind right after it happens

Nobody ever wants or expects them, but car accidents happen every day.  If you suddenly find yourself involved in a fender-bender, the stress of the situation can jumble your thoughts, making you more likely to forget some important steps.  Here are a few things to keep in mind right after a car accident.

-Make sure everyone is okay before you exchange contact and insurance information with the other motorist involved.

-Report the incident to your insurance company, even if you are at fault.

-Take pictures.  Not only will this proof help when sorting things out withan insurance company, but it could serve as useful if there happens to be a dispute about the situation.  Taking notes is a good idea, too.

-Be careful who you talk to.  If you are contacted by the other motorist’s insurance company, it is best to direct them to your insurance company instead of speaking for yourself.  Sensitive situations like car accidents are best left to professionals!

-If there is a dispute with your insurance company, get an attorney.

The 1923 Vision of Future Automobiles: Looking 50 Years Ahead

What do you picture when you think of the future of automobiles?  Our culture is fascinated with the development of technology, especially when it comes to cars.  The world is constantly developing and changing and it's important to keep up!  However, sometimes we're so focused on speeding towards the future that we don’t realize we are repeating history!  People have been dreaming about the future of cars almost since the automobile came into existence.

Picture this: It’s 1923 and the streets of New York are abuzz with excitement.  With the Roaring Twenties in full swing and an increasing number of people commuting in cars, a solution for the congestion is needed.
Eureka!  How about a flying car?  After all, fifty years into the future, anything is possible.  Published in the May 1923 issue of Science and Invention, this is how the automobile of the future was envisioned:

What do you think about this idea being explored so long ago?  Do you think we're getting closer to the age of flying cars?  Weigh in on our Twitter and Facebook pages!

Back that thing up! Here's how to avoid tailgating troubles.

Whether you’ve got a habit of getting a little too “friendly” on the road or your style is being cramped by other drivers, it’s important to know the rules when it comes to tailgating.  Following another car too closely is not only irritating to the leading motorist; it’s dangerous for both parties involved.  Here’s what to do the next time you’re being tailgated:

-Tap lightly on the brakes to warn the person behind you that they are too close.

-Move to another lane to allow the car to pass you.

-Pull off the road completely so the vehicle is able to pull in front of you .

-If all else fails, use the old-fashioned method!  Reach your arm out the window and wave them around you.

Tailgating should be happening at football games—not on the road!  The most important thing to keep in mind is that the only driver you can control is yourself.  Practice defensive techniques and stay alert and stay safe!  Share YOUR safe driving techniques with us on our Facebook wall!
